“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore, I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.” Psalm 91:14
What will your answer be if you were asked what God’s name is? God did say that David knew His name! How did David get to know God’s name? Does God have another name, which you don’t yet know?
David began Psalm 91 and ended it with definite statements of assurance borne out of personal life experiences that manifested God’s unparalleled deliverances in the presence of his blood thirsty adversary.
It takes someone who has experienced God’s protection, provision and preservation to be bold enough to declare same as we read in this Psalm 91. David experienced attacks in his life, but rather than run to the rocks to hide, he went under the shadow of God where he found salvation—-protection, provision and preservation.
Armed with his first hand information he became bold to let others know. As if he was saying, “Because of what I know, I can say God is my protection (refuge) and I trust in Him.”
David’s kind recommendations to trust God is very simple: God shall deliver you, cover you with His wings of protection if you trust God, you shall not fear for any reason, though evil befalls all around; you shall be delivered—no evil shall come upon you, God shall give you His angels to deliver you from harm, you shall walk over your enemies and in fact crush them with your feet.
David knew God—he experienced God—had a full knowledge of God and so he could declare the name of God and not be ashamed or timid.
In response to David’s open declaration God said: “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, kindness–trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].AMP
It takes someone who loves and trusts the LORD to dwell in God’s secret place in prayers and fasting. David demonstrated these and to this end, God in turn promised to deliver and lift him on high, promised to satisfy him with long life.
Who and where do you go to in times of trouble? What does God’s name mean to you? Can you like David declare God’s providence to you to all without being ashamed? Does God know you? What has He promised you in response to your affection towards Him?
